TV’s “30 Rock” Urges Kidney Donation in Musical Season Finale
The national organ shortage is not a laughing matter, but the season finale of “30 Rock,” the Emmy Award-Winning NBC comedy starring Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, had viewers smiling and rocking with a musical plea for kidney donation. The show featured special guest star Alan Alda whose character needs a transplant. The specially written song—“He Needs a Kidney”—brought out top musical talent Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Mary J. Blige, Cyndi Lauper and the Beastie Boys, among other major stars.
To generate additional awareness for the cause, producers have partnered with iTunes to distribute a music video of this song online for six months after the show airs. All proceeds will benefit the National Kidney Foundation.
